I'm going back in
time a little bit so I can tell you about the great shows I've seen in
the past month or so, so bear with me.

Does it Offend You, Yeah?
@ The Drunken Unicorn
7-Sept-2008
Opening Band - Innerpartysystem
OK,
I've been in Atlanta 7 years, but had never been to The Drunken
Unicorn. It's on Ponce, next to the Chipotle. It's actually
underground and has no entrance sign, so unless the doors are open or
you're in the know, you may miss it. It is small, but has very cool
murals. The main music room has robots painted in grey and black. The
bar area had a more soulful vibe and the murals reflected that as
well.
I
almost missed this show even though I really like DIOY, Y? (that's
their name in acronym in case you are wondering who I am talking
about). I was looking at The Drunken Unicorn site for information
about an upcoming Ra Ra Riot show I wanted to see and there it
was...DIOY, Y? tickets for Sunday (2 days away). Thankfully, it wasn't
sold out.
Innerpartysystem
opened the show. I didn't know what to expect. They played a 20 Min
set, but never stopped during the whole thing. It was pulsating
electro rock with catchy melodies and choruses from start to finish.
So inspiring I had to look up more information about them on my iPhone
after their set ended. My favorite song by them was Don't Stop.
(Since the show, Innerpartysystem released their debut self-titled album on 30-Sept-2008. It's only $7.99 on iTunes.)
DIOY,Y?
came on and played pretty much everything they have released. I
recorded most of the set, but like I said before, I had never been to
this venue, so now I know that it is unwise to stand close to the stage
due to these HUGE speakers hanging from the ceiling. When there's a
lot of guitar and electronics, all my camera picked up was distorted
bass...not much melody. I'm kinda peeved about the quality, but what
can I do now?
Highlights of the show:
1>Doomed Now - Love that song and the energy. Unfortunately, the worst video recording of the bunch.
2>Dawn
of the Dead - Their self described "pop" song. I don't care. I LOVE
that song and could play it over and over again. My fav part = "I
didn't come here to try to hurt you, you hurt me". Aggghhh...just the
way he sings "you hurt me." Luv.
3>Whip
It - They covered DEVO's classic, but the lyrics were conspicuously
altered. Hmmmm....I wonder if they feared a call from Mr.
Mothersbaugh. Morgan sang and it was awesome. My sister's nickname is
DEVO, so even more great (Her name is Devin and last name starts w/ an
O).

We got lucky...James (lead singer) broke his ankle a few days after this show during a show and played injured, but I am sure it would have been a different kind of show.
