OK, here's how my recap/reviews work:
- I always DVR the show so I can start/stop as many times as necessary
- I watch the performance and pause so I can write my own critique and prediction for what will happen without being influenced by the judges (Jidges if you're Cat)
- I watch and recap the Judges' responses and decisions (compare against mine)
- In the end, I will decide who are my favorites and predict the bottom 3 (once we get to Top 20 competition).
Priscilla Marrero
Henry Rivero
Marico Flake
Caitlin Kinney (MY FAV OF THE NIGHT)
Here's how I chose these dancers...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SHOW START -
Four years since auditioning in Miami....interesting. I hope they don't get more Susie Garcias (Season 4) this year.
"I'm in Miami BITCH!" LMFAO That's just me being silly while I wait for the first audition. =)
DAY 1 MIAMI -
Judges: Nigel, Mary, & Tyce Diorio (Broadway man)
Tony Riendeau - His own style ("Tony Style") - That's usually not a good sign
Nigel - Complimented his ability to suck and keep going
Tyce - Quarky cooky Tony, like flushing toilet bad - BAAAAHAAAAHAAAA-AAAD!
Tony starts fainting
Priscilla Marrero - Contemporary
Nigel - How long have you been dancing - Answer 3-15, then injury.
"I'm Priscilla, I'm a dancer, that's who I am." Someone's been watching A Chorus Line the movie (Let Me Dance For You by Cassie - I should know, that was one of my solos growing up) / Nigel loved her
Mary - wonderful, captivating
Tyce - Stunningly beautiful, makes him happy to be a dancer
VEGAS
(Tony's with a medic now)
Back from commercial, Tony was fed some water and a banana...WUSS! Dancer's can't afford to get dehydrated! Adios!
Return auditioners, ballroom chick that had lame hair last year (cut from Top 20)
Janette Manrara & Romulo Villaverde - Ballroom (Latin)
Nigel - Loved that turn around split lift
Mary - She's sexy and great - SEND THEM TO VEGAS
Wow, he got through to Vegas too. I think he's got a lot of work to make it without her.
Jessica & Jennifer Guadix - Twins Hip Hop?
The acknowledge they only worked on their number for one day and it should have been together...WOW, just dig the hole deeper girls.
Judges unanimous - CUT
------------------------------------------------------------------
Montage of Tyce being Tyce and letting whatever he thinks come out:
"Did you know you're smelling your armpit?
"If you're gonna do drag, drag it up!"
"A milkshake full of Tylenol" (What?)
"I need the number for the dance police" LOL - my favorite
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Joseph Smith - Hip Hop
Nigel - Loved his feet and personality
Tyce - Comedy is cool and was 1/2 impressed by him
YES to choreo
--------------------------------------------------------------
Choreography Round (31 Dancers) with Lauren Gottlieb
Joseph Smith = Vegas. He did do OK, and I am sure they love his big personality. Gotta replace their Twitch (Season 4)
In the end, 18 dancers from Miami Day 1 made it through.
One girl lost her ticket in the wind and had to chase after it. I know the tickets are symbolic, but I'd have laughed if she lost it for real. *evil laugh*
(Insert non-show related comment - I really hate that Verizon commercial for the HP Mini where the guy finishes the sentences of the girl, but is really arrogant. He annoys me!)
DAY 2 MIAMI -
Judges: Nigel, Mary, & Tyce
Wislande Letang - Jazz?
Mary - She said that the dance was only for Nigel. (I guess I didn't notice that from the angle we saw it.)
Nigel - No smiles, no performance, no style.
Tyce - You've stepped into a world that is beyond
Why do people talk back to the judges (and roll eyes)? It only makes them look worse. Learn to accept the critique and grow from it...that's the only way to get them to respect you. I understand she is embarrassed and they're hurting her feelings, but if you've watched the show before, you know the caliber of dancers that make it (and the caliber of dancers who don't make it, but could, versus people who will never make it).
--------------------------------------------------------------
Montage of cut dancers. I am happy that Nigel actually tells one girl to not try out again this season because it will depress her when they reject her each time, but rather train hard and come back for next season (even though tryouts for Season 6 are only 3 or 4-Mo after these auditions occurred).
I feel bad when they cry because you know they really want to be on the show. I know a lot of EXCELLENT dancers (better than these girls) who got cut this year during the first rounds and it was surprising. That is the reason I never pursued the "business" after 18. I hated the rejection. It tears at your self-esteem. So either you want it so bad you can't do anything else, or you move onto something that you're better at and keep dancing a passion hobby. The reality sucks sometimes.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Erik "Silky" Moore - Tap
Nigel - said the beginning music part wasn't great, but he got better - good audition
Mary - One of the better dancers of the day
Tyce - Didn't let one nuance by
Asked about his name and he said he won a dance battle with "silky" smooth moves. Showed a lot of personality when he said he started tapping to meet girls.
Vegas...I think he won on personality and uniqueness...not a lot of tappers. I would have made him to go to choreo.
Paris Torres - Contemporary
Nigel - thinks she was fabuolous - chose good music
Mary - great lines and feet
Tyce - don't focus so much on legs and feet and more on performance because she has beautiful legs and feet
Tyce and I were on the same page...I wanted her in choreo, but Mary & Nigel gave her the golden ticket to Vegas
Henry Rivero - Contemporary
Megan Kinney - Contemporary
Alex Wong - Contemporary / Ballet
Geo Smith - African Jazz
Nigel's dirty old man came out again - "She thought you were going to tickle her fancy with your feathers"
On to choreography
Teaser - heartwarming story about a young widow after the break...Is there enough?
(Hey, I just realized I think they're at the Miami Ballet Theater. When we were in Miami in March for Ultra, we parked near there and walked by the theater)
Talia Rickards - Hip Hop (Jazz)
Nigel - Don't pull your face, not a lot of vocabulary
Mary - Lots of fire, not a lot of substance,
Tyce - Not much hip hop - no for choreo
Mary and & Nigel say yes to choreo...she does have a great Selena-type smile.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Choreography Round (21 Dancers)
Geo Smith - Vegas (didn't recognize him in a shirt and no head piece)
Talia Rickards - Vegas (she did really good considering her partner didn't partner her at all)
In the end, 14 dancers from Miami Day 2 made it through.
THAT'S 32 DANCERS TOTAL FROM MIAMI
DAY 1 MEMPHIS -
Judges: Nigel, Mary, & Lil C (King of Krump)
Marico Flake - Memphis Juking?
Nigel - Style was underground before and done really well
Lil C - Great humor, great personality, great technique
Mary - Great
Vegas
Dustin Durough - Boyband Hip Hop
Nigel - Delusional that it was hip hop (Dustin gave excuse that he was sick and can't do his "power" moves)
Mary - Martial arts and dancing can be fused, be did not do it
Lil C - So nice that he told him to look into Tricking (Martial Arts & BBoy)
CUT (At least he was professional and saw the good and will return)
Chris Carrrozza - "Electric"
Nigel - very sort of Euro Pop rave? Didn't express if he was a dancer or not
Chris immediately gets defensive and says he didn't expect anything and was ready to go home
Mary - No dancing
Chris takes off his number and starts walking away before Lil C can speak and they call him back
Nigel tells him he is being rude for coming and not accepting the criticism. Chris says he thinks Nigel is rude, but it's OK. He continues to say Nigel is rude for being critical (duh, he's the judge...that's his position)
He left like he wasn't mad, but he was.
--------------------------------------------------------------
SYTYCD Guide to a Good Audition:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Caitlin Kinney - Contemporary
Nigel - How long dancing - She started classical ballet at 16 (SHUT UP??!?! HOW is that possible? Her technique is wonderful. I'm kind of jealous)
She's superbl, beautiful, camera loves her
She's had hip reconstruction already?
Mary - This is her destiny
Lil C - Beautiful, had chills
Vegas
--------------------------------------------------------------
Choreography Round (? dancers)
In the end, 6 dancers from Memphis Day 1 made it through.
DAY 2 MEMPHIS -
Judges: Nigel, Mary, & Lil C
Anna Dunn - Contemporary
Nigel - over choreographed...needs to calm it down so they can get some feeling from her, but her head was moving too much. He said she was tremendous.
Mary - so much potential
Lil C - His father also took his life and he empathizes. He said she must connect with the pain through her dance to heal. She's crying now, which is making me cry =,(
On to choreography
Travis Prokop - Contemporary
Nigel - Big guy - need to strengthen up his body - he needs more work
Mary - great future with work
Lil C - Graceful for his height, but strength of a hamster in a giraffe body
On to choreography (we can hope he does well)
Evan Kasprzak - Jazz (Gene Kelly style)
Nigel - great constructed routine
Mary - Great job, welcome back, but can he dance for his life and people "get it". Nigel then says, it's the other styles that frighten him because the wrong situation and it looks uncomfortable.
Lil C - Amazing - can he find a bond with other styles?
Vegas
Lauren & Lydia Guerra - Contemporary
Nigel - said blue gave more extremes and is a lovely dancer, but peach was a better "performer" (Maybe I focus on technique first). Pair balance each other.
Mary - Good technique, solid performance (Girls said, "blue = power, peach = moments")
Lil C - Don't dance like identical twins, but joy to watch
On to choreography
Ryan Kasprzak - Tap
Nigel - Excellent performance, love tap when you can hear it. Ryan said he's a musical theater guy and does all styles
Mary - loved it
Lil C - Liked that he used his prop throughout
Nigel wanted choreo, but was outvoted by Mary and Lil C - VEGAS
(Guess SYTYCD editing tricked me >=|)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Choreography Round (? dancers)
Lauren Guerra - Vegas because she was the better performer and her dancing came up well
Anna Dunn - Vegas (they did that trickery opposite thing...that's mean considering her fragile state)
Travis Prokop - Vegas because he improved just during the routine
Lydia Guerra - Vegas (again with the trickery...so mean "jidges")
In the end, 19 dancers from Memphis Day 2 made it through
THAT'S 25 TOTAL DANCERS FROM MEMPHIS
---------------------------------------------------------------
TOMORROW = LOS ANGELES & SEATTLE
SHOW START -
Four years since auditioning in Miami....interesting. I hope they don't get more Susie Garcias (Season 4) this year.
"I'm in Miami BITCH!" LMFAO That's just me being silly while I wait for the first audition. =)
DAY 1 MIAMI -
Judges: Nigel, Mary, & Tyce Diorio (Broadway man)
Tony Riendeau - His own style ("Tony Style") - That's usually not a good sign
- "Dancing like he has no bones, as kinky as he likes." GROSS
- Footloose suckage
- Nice red underwear buddy
- This is just sad. He just wiggles around. HAHAHA on that cartwheel FAIL!
- NEXT
Nigel - Complimented his ability to suck and keep going
Tyce - Quarky cooky Tony, like flushing toilet bad - BAAAAHAAAAHAAAA-AAAD!
Tony starts fainting
Priscilla Marrero - Contemporary
- She had me at that first grand jete into that side jump with her leg extended up to the sky...beautiful!
- Great solo with magnificent extension and lines.
- I really loved her facial expressions and how she draws you in
- My only concern is her strength is her right side only. I only saw one develope on the left and it was good, but definitely not as strong as her right.
- She's really ramping up the personality...will probably work
- She made it to Vegas and he got cut
- Check out his eyebrows!
- Wow...she has a HOT body and her hair looks so much better. It really lets you pay attention to her face, body, and great dancing
- Great lifts, very exciting, but I still feel like she stole the show compared to him. He was a really good partner, but I can't see him on the show in the end.
- I think she has a good shot at making it...they always need ballroom dancers.
Nigel - Loved that turn around split lift
Mary - She's sexy and great - SEND THEM TO VEGAS
Wow, he got through to Vegas too. I think he's got a lot of work to make it without her.
Jessica & Jennifer Guadix - Twins Hip Hop?
- They do hip hop with their own style that they have done their whole lives (they're 28), but love lyrical and learned ballet through books (that has to be very difficult)
- What are they wearing...what are those leg thingies besides ugly?
- I'm sorry, but that was sooooooo bad!!!
- Started off with joint assisted sit-ups, then some mirrored moves, then some stripper/club dancing with some choreographed karate kick to the head, followed by some "we don't know what we're doing so we'll just sort of pose and try to look sexy."
- NEXT
The acknowledge they only worked on their number for one day and it should have been together...WOW, just dig the hole deeper girls.
Judges unanimous - CUT
------------------------------------------------------------------
Montage of Tyce being Tyce and letting whatever he thinks come out:
"Did you know you're smelling your armpit?
"If you're gonna do drag, drag it up!"
"A milkshake full of Tylenol" (What?)
"I need the number for the dance police" LOL - my favorite
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Joseph Smith - Hip Hop
- "SHAWAMMM!" (Is that like Shamwow?) = Bam or Good OR "Shawizzzzzam" when you want to hold it out
- Very entertaining. He had a lot of energy and did mostly pop and lock isolations
- Liked the no hand split and rise
- I think they'll put him through to choreo because he didn't do a lot of dancing to show if he can do anything else besides his style
Nigel - Loved his feet and personality
Tyce - Comedy is cool and was 1/2 impressed by him
YES to choreo
--------------------------------------------------------------
Choreography Round (31 Dancers) with Lauren Gottlieb
Joseph Smith = Vegas. He did do OK, and I am sure they love his big personality. Gotta replace their Twitch (Season 4)

- Nice cleavage, yeah you think you're going to get attention with those don't you
- I don't know why people even go to the audition if they're not going to dance it full out?
- Very remedial with a little stripper in there. OK...I was going to get snotty, but I'll withhold my comment.
- NEXT
Mary - She said that the dance was only for Nigel. (I guess I didn't notice that from the angle we saw it.)
Nigel - No smiles, no performance, no style.
Tyce - You've stepped into a world that is beyond
Why do people talk back to the judges (and roll eyes)? It only makes them look worse. Learn to accept the critique and grow from it...that's the only way to get them to respect you. --------------------------------------------------------------
Erik "Silky" Moore - Tap
- He's bring Tapping back!
- Dancing to Thriller - started with an aerial...scary in tap shoes
- I will say his tapping is good, not great. I didn't like his musicality. It was competing with the song.
- BUT, he was entertaining especially when he started adding some hip hop, back spins, and the back/front worm.
- I think they'll move him to choreography.
- Former Miss Washington - got into it because of dance
- wearing a tutu
- Danced to Yael Naim's toxic cover
- She got a lot better once she started doing more moden "broken doll" moves which showed her personality and performance. Her turns were definitely weak, but she had nice leaps and extensions.
- I think she's OK...not a huge standout, but still good.
- WOAH...nice develope a la second to side tilt. (And it's a guy!)
- Nice pirouettes! Style reminds me of Travis (Season 2), but not as good. Not many are...
- Vegas
Megan Kinney - Contemporary
- TONS of gymnastics. While it looks impressive, I wish there were less tricks and more dance. Although, I know she can do things other can't because of her gymnastics' skills.
- Vegas
Alex Wong - Contemporary / Ballet
- I just watched an AMAZING YouTube video with him in it and he was fabulous!
- He's not the best looking guy, but he's a great dancer.
- I just wish he'd loosen up his shoulders a little.
- Very nice catch turn. His foot was in line with his head. Nice.
- Vegas
Geo Smith - African Jazz
- Guy has on a feathered head piece
- While he had an African influence, he did show technique (wasn't great, but good)
- Not sure what they'll do...choreography?
Nigel's dirty old man came out again - "She thought you were going to tickle her fancy with your feathers"
On to choreography
Teaser - heartwarming story about a young widow after the break...Is there enough?
(Hey, I just realized I think they're at the Miami Ballet Theater. When we were in Miami in March for Ultra, we parked near there and walked by the theater)
Talia Rickards - Hip Hop (Jazz)
- Married at 18, dated since 14. Husband died in a motorcycle accident when she was 22. SYTYCD is her first audition since his death.
- I hope she's good with that story because you'd feel bad if you had to tell her no
- OK...she's pretty, has a nice body, and a great smile. Her dancing had a lot of basketball cheerleading style to it (and she auditioned in sneakers). It was OK
- I think she'll go to choreo
Nigel - Don't pull your face, not a lot of vocabulary
Mary - Lots of fire, not a lot of substance,
Tyce - Not much hip hop - no for choreo
Mary and & Nigel say yes to choreo...she does have a great Selena-type smile.

THAT'S 32 DANCERS TOTAL FROM MIAMI
DAY 1 MEMPHIS -
Judges: Nigel, Mary, & Lil C (King of Krump)
Marico Flake - Memphis Juking?
- Police officer in Memphis
- Bounce and slides style
- Awesome at his style. Great smooth and jerky hits together. I don't know what to call it, but I liked it.
Nigel - Style was underground before and done really well
Lil C - Great humor, great personality, great technique
Mary - Great
Vegas
Dustin Durough - Boyband Hip Hop
- 2nd cousin to Howie from Backstreet Boys, but has never met him
- Nice name dropping to go along with that headband
- The first time we hear Poker Face and it's for him?
- He's not even to the beat (maybe they dubbed his song).
- OMG...I can't watch those pique turns
- No, that is his music...he's just that bad
- NEXT
Nigel - Delusional that it was hip hop (Dustin gave excuse that he was sick and can't do his "power" moves)
Mary - Martial arts and dancing can be fused, be did not do it
Lil C - So nice that he told him to look into Tricking (Martial Arts & BBoy)
CUT (At least he was professional and saw the good and will return)
Chris Carrrozza - "Electric"
- Mix of minimal breaking, lots of pop/lock, fluid movements, cheerleader to the music, styles of symmetry and performance art along with all ethnic styles (I love when people make up "new" styles to describe their NON-dancing)
- Dressed sort of like those Rave people with beads in their hair and bell bottoms, except usually those are girls
- OK, I saw a lot of hopping in place with arms, but he said there'd be pop/lock, a little breaking. I guess those arms were cheerleadery.
- Looked liked club dancing only to me.
- NEXT
Nigel - very sort of Euro Pop rave? Didn't express if he was a dancer or not
Chris immediately gets defensive and says he didn't expect anything and was ready to go home
Mary - No dancing
Chris takes off his number and starts walking away before Lil C can speak and they call him back

--------------------------------------------------------------
SYTYCD Guide to a Good Audition:
- Start with your best move (ouchy on the falls)
- Come dressed to impress (some crazies in the house)
- Connect with the judges (LOL on guy who asks if he's going to Vegas after Mia says it's the worst piece of sh*t she's seen)
- Always follow directions (wow...guy fell off the stage)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Caitlin Kinney - Contemporary
- Sister of Megan Kinney (Miami audition, girl who did lots of gymnastics)
- NOW THAT'S THE WAY TO INCORPORATE GYMNASTICS AND DANCE
- Make the tricks work like they just grew out of the movement
- So beautiful. Great feet, lines, turns (except fell out of one fouete).
- Drew you in with the movement and how she danced to the music. Love the way she filled the music. I almost got misty eyed watching.
- I think Vegas
Nigel - How long dancing - She started classical ballet at 16 (SHUT UP??!?! HOW is that possible? Her technique is wonderful. I'm kind of jealous)
She's superbl, beautiful, camera loves her
She's had hip reconstruction already?
Mary - This is her destiny
Lil C - Beautiful, had chills
Vegas
--------------------------------------------------------------
Choreography Round (? dancers)
In the end, 6 dancers from Memphis Day 1 made it through.
DAY 2 MEMPHIS -
Judges: Nigel, Mary, & Lil C
Anna Dunn - Contemporary
- Her father committed suicide a year before. Dance is her outlet.
- HEY, same exact song as the previous girl...think they could have spread it out (even though I like the song...what is it?)
- Mia styled routine. Very modern and "organic" with some technique. Her extensions were better than her turns (straighten that knee on the second turns).
- She's cute and looks good on camera. I think they'll like her.
- Father is a football coach. His father is proud of him and never was upset he didn't play football. Nice relationship.
- While he had good movement, he didn't do much and his technique was lacking when he extended his legs.
- I don't think he did enough.
- Auditioned last year with same schtick (hat, suspenders, classic glamour hollywood) and got cut Top 40 in Vegas
- He was great last year
- Very stylistic (would love to see him doing Tyce choreo), super technique, amazing middle leap...so high
- I don't know though, he seems kind of squatty and short
- I think he's a shoe in for Vegas
Nigel - great constructed routine
Mary - Great job, welcome back, but can he dance for his life and people "get it". Nigel then says, it's the other styles that frighten him because the wrong situation and it looks uncomfortable.
Lil C - Amazing - can he find a bond with other styles?
Vegas
Lauren & Lydia Guerra - Contemporary
- Another set of twins
- "So much easier and more at ease" LOL-They were WAY better than the last twins, but that's not hard to do
- I think the blue topped sister had a better performance. She filled out her moves more and seemed to "perform" more while the peach topped sister did the moves, but wasn't as clean. However, they danced well together.
- Nigel has already alluded to splitting up families...not sure if it's them.
- Big brother to Evan, but doing Tap with a whoopie cushion.
- A Capella tap (last performance...think he's not going to make it because that teaser about families wasn't for the girls)
- Definitely talented and MOST definitely a clown who love performing. Kept you engaged, even is I hate whoopee cushions.
- Ewww...sweaty armpits through his shirt.
- I think he looks old for the show (poor balding head).

TOMORROW = LOS ANGELES & SEATTLE
