OK, here's how my ELIMINATION recap/reviews work:
  1. I always DVR the show so I can start/stop as many times as necessary
  2. I list who I predicted would be in the bottom 3.
  3. I watch the show and confirm if I was right or wrong.
  4. I critique each "Dance For Your Life" Solo & decide who I think should be sent home (may be different than my original pick from Performance episode).
  5. I watch and recap the Judges' responses and document who the judges choose to eliminate and confirm if I was right or wrong.
Predicted Bottom 3:
Jonathan & Karla
Vitolio & Asuka
Jason & Caitlin

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Cat is wearing a VERY shiny silver snakeskin mini dress.  It looks nice, but not my style.  She strangely looks like Blake Lively today.  It must be the hair and makeup because I've never thought that before.

Top 20 Routine - Broadway / Tyce Diorio / Brand New Day (The Wiz)
  • I think this was one of my favorite group numbers.  Seriously, I loved the way the frame was choreographed into the dance, especially when the dancers come running through it.  I just loved the choreography because it felt very joyous.  I also think it's a slight homage to Michael Jackson because he was the Scarecrow in the movie version of The Wiz.
  • WOAH on Kayla's naked costume.  Seriously, she looks nude with some strategically placed covers.  YIKES.  Good thing she has the body to pull it off.
  • I liked Brandon's "lion" like costume.  He also is almost naked on stage.
  • Actually everyone had really great makeup and costumes in this one.
Judges - Nigel, Mary, & Mia

Down to Business:
  • First 2 couples include Vitolio & Karla and Evan & Randi.  Well I know my Bottom 3 are wrong right away because I had both of these couples in the bottom.  So I was right about Vitolio & Karla (but who DIDN'T guess them), and wrong about Evan & Randi.  That makes me nervous for who IS in the bottom.  *starts biting nails*
  • Next 3 couples include Brandon & Janette, Kupono & Karla, and Ade & Melissa.  OH NO.  I loved all of them and the last two were my favorite of the night.  Brandon & Janette are safe (I will admit, I watched the routine again and it was really good. I was being harsher than necessary before).  *starts hyperventilating*  This means one of my favorite numbers of the night is in the Bottom 3?!?!?!  Sadly, I hope it's Ade & Melissa...WHAT!?!?!?  It's Kupono & Kayla!!!!!!!!!!!!  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO  That was THE best routine of the night!  What was America watching?  Are they serious?  This is soo horrible!
  • Last 2 couples include Phillip & Jeanine and Jason & Caitlin.  Will it be another Jason vs. Kupono in the bottom?  SO SAD if it happens again (but good for getting rid of Vitolio).  ANOTHER SURPRISE:  Phillip & Jeanine in the Bottom 3?  Seriously?  WOW!  Guess people "got" the alien number more than I gave them credit for.

I AM 1 FOR 3 TONIGHT!  =[  The biggest surprise of the evening for me is Kupono & Kayla in the bottom because that was my favorite routine of the evening.  Phillip & Jeanine in the bottom is a surprise because they had hip hop, but I've been wanting them in the bottom since that dreadful Tango. BUT, they won't get rid of Phillip.  They know he's got a huge following.

 Actual Bottom 3:
  • Vitolio & Karla
  • Kupono & Kayla
  • Phillip & Jeanine
I stand by my original prediction and will say Vitolio and Karla will be sent packing tonight just because 3rd time in the bottom has to be telling the judges that America doesn't love them as much as the others.

Each week, So You Think You Can Dance will feature dance styles from around the world on the Results Show.

Special Guest: Contemporary Ballet / Desmond Richardson & Patricia Hachey / Caprice in E Minor, Op. 1 No. 3 (Midori)
  • Amazing control, especially the way she holds herself in that second position grand plie en pointe.
  • I really don't like Desmond's mesh crop top.  It'd be so much better if he didn't have a top on.
  • Such tremendous technique.  I really loved watching Desmond dance.  The hubby liked her.  Can't help but stare at their physique.  So powerful and supple.
  • This has been my favorite special guest this season.
SOLOS:
Karla - Blackbird (Dionne Farris)
  •  Out of all her solos, this one was my favorite.  There was real movement along with her tricks, but the tricks now felt organic within the choreography versus placed.
  • I don't like that costume.  It's too much on such a small girl.
Vitolio - Here Comes Goodbye (Rascal Flatts)
  • is that song supposed to be prophetic?
  • I still hate his technique and it always feels a little empty for me.  Like he's doing moves that should make me feel something, but I don't.
Kayla - Stupid (Sarah McLachlan)
  • Why does she always pick the most drab and dark pieces to wear for her solo?  Doesn't she realize she looks prettier in lighter or brighter clothes, not gray and brown?
  • Stumbled on initial releve develope a la second...uh oh.  Better than her first solo, but still not great.  She listened to the judges and pared it down, but she's missing the "performance" aspect.
  • She seems to be a choreographer's dancer...give her any material and she's a chameleon, but can't really stand out on her own doing self choreography (I was like that too...she'll work a lot regardless of the show).
Kupono - Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole)
  • GREAT SONG!  Bringing in his roots, good move!
  • Kupono??!?!?!  What was that?  That was HORRIBLE?  WHY??????  YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO DO THAT RIGHT NOW.  You have to DANCE!  =(
  • OMG OMG OMG OMG!  *freaking out right now*
Jeanine -  Moonlight Sonata (Smart Sleep with Classical)
  • Interesting music choice...very confident move
  • The girl's got some technique!  This is the first time we have seen her dance in her own style.  It's good.  She has classical training, but can add moden elements.  Her feet were great too.
  • My only thought is, this is her at her BEST solo because everyone has the best saved for the first time and this is her first time in the bottom.  The other dancers have been in the bottom more than once.
  • That was the strongest solo of the girls though.
Phillip - You'll Find a Way - Switch & Sinbad Remix (Santigold)
  • While he usually blows me away with his great solo work, this one was underwhelming.  It felt cramped and wasn't even on the beat all the time.
  • I don't think he's in danger, but I wished it looked better.
Special Performance - Kelly Clarkson (I do not hook up)
  • This girl really needs a better stylist.  They never dress her body its best potential.  She isn't twig skinny so when they put her in some clothing it makes her look bigger than necessary.
  • Or maybe she just needs to be on "What Not to Wear"
Results -

Girls - Unanimous
  • Jeanine - Normally she doesn't get the credit she deserves, but she was the strongest of the evening and safe
  • Kayla - a Judges/Choreographer fav, but her solo was stagnant (too many kicks and arabesques, not enough heart)
  • Karla - Very "good" dancer, but on journey, she's lost star quality she used to have and she's cut.
Guys - Unanimous
  • Phillip - Superb in his own style, but his solo was desperate and overworked.  He is phenomenal.  He still has a lot of hard work to manage the other genres, but he's staying and will have to master the other styles.
  • Vitolio (Funny moment - Kupono stepped forward instead when Vitolio's name was called.  Kupono is so nervous, you can tell.  *continues biting my nails in anxious anticipation*).  Vitolio has great presence and promises something great, but never delivers beyond the presence.
  • Kupono - Thank goodness it isn't "So You Think You Can Choreograph."  That was a weak solo and he cannot just stand there and smile and expect to dance for his life.  He needs more passion than he presented, but that's what they expect from him NEXT WEEK!  Kupono screams in surprise and relief.  So do I!!!!  Phew, that was too too too close.
  • Vitolio is out (Asuka is in the audience and looks sad for him).
Sigh - Top 12 elimination is going to break my heart for sure.  I really know it now.  The next girl/guy out WILL be someone I love for sure.

No changes in couples

Until next week...keep on dancing!

Here's a very interesting blog about how TV storylines are crafted and how the producers may be leading the viewers to pick "their" winner this year.

SYTYCD Conspiracy Theories - Picking the S5 Winner

Based on this article, Ade & Melissa will most likely get Hip Hop forcing them into the Bottom 3 and may be their last dance.  And Phillip & Jeanine will most likely get Contemporary (I'm thinking Allison/Ivan's Why styled contemporary) securing them a Top 10 placeholder.

Who knows, but I can't help but feel a little manipulated?  I always wish this was a TALENT show first, but it is a REALITY show and we all tune in for the drama of it.  This article also proves I do not have the instincts to make it behind the scenes of a TV show.  I have never thought about it the way this author layed it out, but it makes sense.
