SYTYCD S5 Ep. 15 Top 12 Elimination

Cat is wearing a blue  3/4 length sleeved shift dress with bejeweled gold embellishment on the neck (think Egyptian).  She also has HUGE gold and jeweled earrings on.  Hair is straight and simple.  I think she has on matching blue eyeshadow (not a fan of it).  This isn't a great look on her compared to last night's glamour.   

Top 20 Routine - Hip Hop (Jazz) / NappyTabs / Seven Nation Army (White Stripes)

•  They're all dressed in militant jackets, like MJ, but the guys' are to the waist and girls' cropped.  They are have black berets on.  Guys have simple black pants on, but girls have parachute shiny black pants with gold buttons down the zipper. 
  
• The number is 1/2 rocker jazz and 1/2 hip hop-ish. 
  
• It's ok.
• Although, per Twitter, Tabitha had a death in her family yesterday (day they had rehearsal for this routine) and are present at the show.  It must be so hard to put up a calm face and have to work when you're grieving.  Kudos to Tabs!
  

Judges - Nigel, Mary, & Tyce

 
BAD NEWS...NO MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE SHOW.  I am sooooo disappointed!  Nigel said they were all set (Wade, Mia, Tyce, NappyTabs, Paula Abdul, etc), but couldn't get the music cleared from either Sony or the Jackson estate.  This is horrible news especially when they got the music cleared for American Idol.  I guess in death Michael will be harder to use than in life (back off Paul McCartney...you can't have your Beatles music yet).

Tyce - "They didn't sign up for a vacation at Club Med...this is SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!"

After Top 10, judges have no say in who goes home.  It'll all be based on votes.

Down to Business:

• First 2 couples include Jason & Caitlin and Brandon & Janette.  I think Jason & Caitlin had to know they're in the bottom when up against Brandette.  Brandette was on FIRE last night...untouchable.   
  
• Next 2 couples include Evan & Randi and Phillip & Jeanine.  Oooohhh...interesting.  It was between them for my last slot pick for the bottom.  Phillip & Jeanine are in the bottom.  It's good to know it's not just about personality with Phil.  Nigel explains how they pick the people they want to "keep" not get rid of, but the solos can alter that decision.  BUT, the tour always has "swing" dancers on tour and the castoffs will most likely be going on the tour also.
• Last 2 couples include Ade & Melissa and Kupono & Kayla.  I am super scared!  I really hope it's not Kaypono because they were ridiculous last night and need to get their due props.  YES, Kaypono is safe!!!  LOL - Kupono holding Kayla in that prom pose embrace again.  So funny.  Kupono is twitching his leg and looks so nervous.  They are soooo excited.  Love their response.  Ade & Melissa in the bottom for the first time.  Melissa looks a little shocked and miffed (dang she has muscles.  Girls shouldn't have that v waist thing.  Crazy!)   
  

I AM 3 FOR 3 TONIGHT!  =D  Oh yeah...many blogs had different couples, but mine was right!  I know, I know...I'm gloating.  It's not a proud moment.  =)

I stand by my original prediction and will say Ade and Caitlin will be sent packing tonight just because I really want Phillip to go, but can't see them letting him go so close to the tour.  Ade is my next pick only because I don't know his personality as well yet, versus Jason.

Cat shows a sneak peak from S6 auditions.  Every Thursday she will be bringing us highlights from the upcoming show.  Hmmm...I guess this means no more "special performance dance from around the world"?  They focus on one blonde kid named Teddy who wears a big bowtie and has on crazy argyle pants.  He claims he's whimsical.  There are parts I liked, but he wasn't as great as they said, but I'll be watching out for him

Tyce - "Season 6 is here...HELLO...GOOD MORNING!"  He's so weird sometimes.

SOLOS:
Caitlin - Stand By Me (Playing for Change)

•  I feel like she gave this solo away.  She tried to be cutesy and it didn't work in my opinion.  Still great lines and feet, but in the end, it wasn't impressive. 
  
• Now her muscles I like...she's so feminine, but has amazing abs
  

Jason - Calm Touching (Evaline)

• I think he knows the fans like him shirtless (we do), but I hate when he dances in jeans because it stunts his lines.  It was a little spastic with a rocker edge.  I didn't hate it, but I kept thinking, where is that guy who did the solo to Baby's Romance in Season 4 Vegas?  The guy who had to dance for his life, and was so impressive, they kept him one more round and he cried.  I wanted to see that guy dance because when I first saw Jason in S4 auditions, I connected to him and liked him.
  

Jeanine - Baby's Romance (Chris Garneau)

• Oh, how weird is that?  I mention wanting to see JASON dance to this song and Jeanine dances to it right after.  She is really incredible when she gets to just dance.  Loved the arabesque hold to releve.  So pretty.  And, how does her top stay in that little outfit?  She really does have big boobs for a dancer.  Guys will vote for her LOL.
  

Phillip - The Diva Dance (The Fifth Element)

• He's a lot better than last week.  It's more stylistic and actually showcases his talent.  My only problem is his whole talent is in his arms and fingers.  He didn't move from that area in the center of the stage; therefore, I'd be bored if I didn't have a camera zoomed into him.  Crazy double jointed stuff.  That stuff always creeps me out in a good way. 
  

Melissa -  Kashira (Kodo)

• She is technically amazing, but I don't like her outfit.  She is a muscular woman so when her hair is pulled back in a bun and she has on girl version of boxing shorts. she needs something to soften her up.  I think that's why when she auditoned in the tutu she was so magnetic.  Magificent dancing though.
  

Ade - Windowdipper (Jib Kidder)

• I LOVE THIS SONG (ever since my sister sent me the video of Travis Wall S2 dancing to it)
• Definitely THE BEST solo of the evening.  I think him being strong has kept us from seeing him dance because the choreographers keep making him carry Melissa around.  WOW!!  He used the whole stage and kept you interested.  I didn't want him to stop dancing.  I think changing partners will be better for him because people can start voting for HIM, not the pair.  Great use of all the music and amazing leaps and flip! He reminded me of Travis (a taller version of course) when he moves. 
  

I change my guy vote....based on Ade's solo, Jason might be going home.   

Special Performance - Kelly Rowland & DJ David Guetta

• The first non lip syncer it seems.  I didn't recognize her with long hair.
  
• Trance never sounds right performed...it's meant for clubs and raves with lights flashing. 
  

Results -

Nigel says all six dancers are brilliant and whatever they say will affect fans who have favorites, but next week they start dancing as singles, not duos and need to become stars.  This is the most technical Top 20 and they need to live up to their potential.

• Phillip
• Nigel says he is unique in what he does and all other genres have been a let down (not taking the Russian dance into account).  He then announces that he has secured w/ the producers that Phillip and Caitlin will be on the Tour...screams of joy erupt from the audience.  You see Phillip just beam and in the background you see Jason break into tears and he looks over to where Caitlin is sitting.  YAY (Caitlin looks so happy and hugs Jason).
  
• Phillip speaks and says he will miss being able to grow and he knows he's not a trained dancer, but he wants to inspire people to know you don't need money or a studio.  You just need passion and creativity and you can do whatever you want.  (Very well said and inspiring Phillip)
  

So it seems it's the Top 12 Tour now.  I am happy with the judges decisions tonight.  The best dancers are moving on, but fans will still come to see Phillip.  I'll miss Caitlin's smile, but her time was up.  The competition gets more fun now!  =)
