Thumbnail image for SYTYCD S7 PicI came to the conclusion last night that there is no way I will ever catch up on my SYTYCD S7 blogging.  I have already missed 2 weeks worth of episodes (4 shows) and will most likely miss this week's because I am traveling and next week's because I'll be on vacation.  The odds are stacked against me and I know when to fold.

I'd like to think that if I didn't have surgery I would have been on the ball and a blogging pro; however, I believe I probably would have faced the same issues.

I want to watch the show with everyone and not have to hide.  I want to be excited about pieces in real time and not wait until the season's over.  I can only do that if I just admit the blogging isn't working out and start watching the show without shame.

I am sorry to anyone who enjoyed my commentary.  I enjoyed writing it, but know that it takes about 3-4 hours to blog a 2-hr show.  That's time I don't have right now. =(

OK, here's how my recap/reviews work:
  1. I always DVR the show so I can start/stop as many times as necessary
  2. I watch the performance and pause so I can write my own critique and prediction for what will happen without being influenced by the judges (Jidges if you're Cat)
  3. I watch and recap the Judges' responses and decisions (compare against mine)
  4. In the end, I will decide who are my favorites and predict the bottom 3 (once we get to Top 10 competition).
My favorite dancers from Dallas & Nashville
  • Jordan Johnson
  • Bryan Gaynor (He's so fabulous...made me cry)
My favorite dancers from Vegas (not shown before)
  • Alex Wong

I am the laziest blogger on Earth

To Blog or Not To Blog.jpg
Source: Unknown

Seriously, I have all these ideas in my head that I think would be great, but then real life takes over and I never get to any of them to the point where if I DID actually start, I'd be so far behind I won't do it. Such a blogging conundrum.  But I really want to try to be a better, more regular, blogger.

Here are my ideas for regular segments on the blog:
  • Continue my regular entry updates for fanfics - rated, reading now, to-read, etc.
  • Restart my concert reviews (starting with The English Beat/Fishbone show I saw on Friday)
  • Start a new segment for reviewing the fanfics I have finished reading so people actually know WHY I rated them the way I did
  • Start a new segment for highlighting a song a week whether it is for the song itself, its lyrics, or because it spoke to me that week
  • Start a new segment reviewing new music I have bought
  • Restart my SYTYCD blogging when Season 7 starts in May.
Now I don't want to be one of those generic blog sites that all have the same new hipster information.  Really, I didn't start this because I wanted to become famous (although I love seeing that someone has found me).  I blog because I sometimes have thoughts in my head that I want to get out.  I like to just be honest and write about things that speak to me or my passions.

So, let's see if I can drag myself away from reading Twilight fanfic long enough to make these aspirations come true.  =)

Dancing Devo

As many of you know, my sister auditioned for SYTYCD three seasons ago and they actually showed her audition on TV.  I'm sure she was shown mostly for the comic relief of her standing while Pat Benatar's 'Barracuda' roared over the speakers and her not dancing.  Well, she didn't dance because that wasn't her song and in competition etiquette, you stand politely until someone figures out that isn't your music.

However, she was also shown because she's a great dancer.  SYTYCD may not be her venue, but her talent will take her far in whatever she chooses to do.

This audition was shown first for the whole season which also garnered her a lot of attention the night it aired.  I am also posting the whole performance with the music she actually performed to when she auditioned (yes, SYTYCD does change music when your music doesn't clear).

You can see more of her videos (dancing or concert videos) on her YouTube Page.

I never posted this before because YouTube has muted her video last year. Yesterday I figured out the audio was back and decided to share the video with everyone.

All I can say is that I have missed watching Danny Tidwell dance.  He is my favorite current dancer (I say current because Mikhail Baryshnikov will be my first dance love).  When I watch Danny dance it's like being connected to the soul of the whole world and knowing there is beauty beneath all the hatred and disagreement.  He is true beauty when he moves.

If you don't know who Danny Tidwell is, well he is perfection.  He was first runner up in So You Think You Can Dance Season 3 (defeated by Sabra Johnson because America doesn't know how to vote).  He is also the adopted brother of Travis Wall (SYTYCD S2 first runner up...again, same story about America).  Before the show, he was known in the ballet world as one of the up and comers.  When he is on a stage, you can't take your eyes off him.  Not only is he technically gifted, but he holds a captivating power with his elegance, grace, and strength.

Someone posted this video recently.  It was recorded at the Dancers Responding to AIDS  benefit at Fire Island.  What makes this video even more breathtaking is the setting.  This piece goes so well with the ocean in the background and nothing else obstructing us from watching Danny.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

AND THE WINNER IS...
sytycd_jeanine.jpgJEANINE MASON
CONGRATULATIONS

Jeanine.jpg
(If you click on the picture, it opens to a different view of Jeanine)

So while the rest of the country is in Jeanine idolatry, I have remained very cool towards her.  Logically I know she is beautiful, I know she is an amazing performer, and an excellent dancer, yet when it comes to "love", I have very small doses for her.  How is this possible when EVERYONE I talk to can't stop saying, "but she's sooooooooo good....what's wrong with you?"

That's what I'm here to discuss...what IS wrong with me?  Why did I not jump on the SYTYCD Season 5 Jeanine Bandwagon?  She might win tonight and I still am so "eh" about it.  Don't get me wrong, she's deserving, but I won't be super psyched about it.

  4. In the end, I will decide who I think should win this season of SYTYCD Season 5
My Favorite Routines:
Brandon & Kayla - Broadway
Brandon & Jeanine - Paso Doble

Brandon solo
Jeanine solo

Season 5 Winner:
BRANDON - He's who I want to win (I also think Kayla is a phenomenol dancer, but won't win based on tonight's performance).
Do I think he WILL win?  No.  I think Jeanine or Evan will win.  I'll be okay if Jeanine wins (even if I like Kayla more) , but will be upset if Evan takes the prize.

My Favorite Routines:
Ade & Melissa - Contemporary
( I had three other pieces here, but I realized I only really liked them.  I loved Tyce's contemporary)

Predicted Bottom 4:
Girls - Kayla & Melissa
Guys - Jason & Evan

Predicted Cast-offs:
Kayla & Evan
  • I originally was positive that Melissa would be going home before this show aired, but I think her contemporary number was so strong that it will garner her more votes than Kayla, even if I didn't like her solo or her Cha Cha.  I think Janette is the strongest overall, but I think Jeanine has a pretty good fan base and her Pop Jazz with Brandon was really good.  For the guys, I would have originally thought Jason & Ade in the bottom with either going home because they're kind of equal, but that Tyce piece will save Ade I think.  While I think Jason was stronger tonight, Evan has a huge following that may keep him safe over Jason. I'm not really sure.

My Favorite Routines:
Jason & Jeanine
Brandon & Melissa

Predicted Bottom 6:
Girls - Kayla, Randi, Melissa
Guys - Ade, Jason, Kupono
  • I originally had Evan in the bottom 3 guys, but I have a feeling he is the reason he and Randi never saw the bottom.  I think alone people will vote for Evan regardless of how great Jason was.  There can only be two safe dancers and three in the bottom.  Based on popularity votes, I think Brandon and Evan will take in more than the other guys.  For the girls,  I think Jeanine and Janette are leading the pack.
Predicted Cast-offs:
Sniffle sniffle as I write this, but I think it will be Kupono & Randi. I just think as a whole the other dancers are bringing more to the table.  This makes me sad to even write his name, but I think he's going home....waaaahhh!

Jason & Caitlin

My Favorites:

Brandon & Janette - Argentine Tango

Predicted Bottom 3:
Ade & Melissa
Jason & Caitlin
Phillip & Jeanine

(Although, I have a feeling Kupono & Kayla may end up on the bottom just because they have been for there before and the others haven't.)

Predicted Cast-offs:
Sadly if I use my predicted list I think it may be Ade & Caitlin. The one I'd like to see leave is Phillip, but he'll get butts in seats for the tour so you know he's not leaving.  This is all purely speculative.  I have NO IDEA!  America, please get it right.

Vitolio & Karla (I think the concept was better than them)
Evan & Randi (Because it's weaker and less popular than some of the other performances)

Predicted Cast-offs:
Vitolio & Karla because I don't like their solos

Jonathan & Karla
Vitolio & Asuka

Predicted Cast-offs:
I think it'll be the end of the road for Jonathan & Karla.  They've had two poor routines and one good.  Odds are against them, and they were worse than any other couple this week for me.

Predicted Cast-offs:
So hard to guess, but for right now, I'd say Vitolio & Jeanine (hard to say because we've never seen Jeanine's solo.  I'm being biased because I don't want to break up Jason & Caitlin.  I don't even like him in the bottom because he's great).

The Top 20 have been cast and the REAL competition starts on Wednesday, 10-Jun-2009.  We'll find out who each person got paired up with (this decision alone can make or break a great dancer if paired with the wrong person).  We'll also see who has the right "on camera" personality to grab votes, but more importantly to executive producers (Nigel) RATINGS!  Because ratings = money $$$.

As I mentioned before, I do my own unscientific, unofficial, and definitely not objective dancer profiling to determine what the breakdown is for this season and how that stacks up against previous seasons.  I may even speculate about why other dancers may have been passed over.

*I am not affiliated with the show in any way.  I am just a humble TV watching speculator critic who wants to express my opinions (as unfounded or biased as they may seem at times).
